How to install and set up Drive Browser for Google Sheets
Installing Drive Browser
Drive Browser is a Google Sheets add-on that helps you browse, search, and export your Google Drive files to spreadsheets. This guide will walk you through installation and first-time setup.
What You'll Need
Before installing, make sure you have:
- A Google Account (personal or Google Workspace)
- Access to Google Sheets
- Permission to install add-ons (check with your administrator if using Google Workspace)
Installation Steps
1. Install from Google Workspace Marketplace
- Open any Google Sheet
- Go to Extensions → Add-ons → Get add-ons
- Search for "Drive Browser"
- Click Install
- Review the permissions requested
- Click Continue and select your Google account
- Click Allow to authorize Drive Browser

2. Understanding Permissions
Drive Browser requests these permissions to work properly:
- View and manage spreadsheets - To write export results to your sheet
- View metadata for files in your Drive - To read file names, sizes, dates (not file contents)
- Connect to an external service - To verify your subscription status
- Display and run content - To show the sidebar interface
Note: Drive Browser only reads file metadata. It never accesses or modifies your actual file contents.
3. First Authorization
After installation, the first time you use Drive Browser:
- Open any Google Sheet
- Go to Extensions → 🔂 Drive Browser → 🔂 Run Drive Browser
- You may see an authorization screen - click Authorize
- Select your account and click Allow

4. Verify Installation
To confirm Drive Browser is installed correctly:
- In Google Sheets, click Extensions in the menu bar
- You should see 🔂 Drive Browser in the list
- Hover over it to see the menu options:
- 🔂 Run Drive Browser
- ⚡ Quick Export
- 🔍 Search & Select Files
- ⚙️ Settings
- 💳 Upgrade
- ❓ Help

Your Free Trial

You'll see a trial banner at the bottom of the sidebar showing how many days remain.

Tip: Drive Browser works in both Google Sheets and Google Drive. Right-click any file in Drive and select "Open with → Drive Browser" for CSV exports!
